I asked a girl to banquet, now she is avoiding me?

So i asked a girl to banquet that i like, nothing big or anything,I just asked if she would like to go with me. She said "Which one?" i specified and she said "Awww, of course i would", but now at school she is almost avoiding me. She has stopped talking to me, and when I try to start a conversation she seems to end it short. I do like her, and its a little awkward for me, but before she would hug me a lot ,we could have conversations, she laughed at all my jokes, and she was would always touch my hair (apparently i have very soft hair).I tried to wait it out and see if she would approach me after my attempts to talk failed, but nothing is happening. Maybe it's awkward for her because she is two grades ahead of me (junior/freshman). Did mistake being the adorable freshman, freshman for her liking me? More than anything I don't want to ruin the friendship so can any one explain this or help me get things to normal so its not awkward at banquet.
