For things like this I agree with you. I believe the Delltones in Australia here only have one original member. It's just a money grab, that's all. Why else would it be? If he toured under a different name then no one would know or care. If he toured under the banner of "former band member of..." or something like that - the lead singer for Bay City Rollers has done something similar in his promotional stuff. So, yeah, it's just a money grab.
