How does "equality under the law" jive with affirmative action and engineered diversity?

Affirmative action wasn't designed to engineer diversity. It was a response to de facto and de jure segregation that resulted in crappy schools and job opportunities for Blacks. Black people don't go to college to live out some cherished dream of multiculturalism, they do it for the same reasons everyone does: to get a good education.
