Any former Catholics out there who can attest to being saved only after you left Catholicism to follow Christ?

I've met a number of former Catholics who look back on their Catholic day in infamy, thanking God for saving them from religion, and entering him/her into a true relationship w/ God in Christ. Are there more of you out there? I'd like to hear your story.
